Grad Ogulin je u suradnji s tvrtkom Stambeno komunalno gospodarstvo d.o.o. i općinom Plaški prijavio projekt "Recikliraj za bolje sutra" za financiranje putem EU fondova.
Smisao ovog projekta je provedba edukativnih i informativnih aktivnosti iz područja gospodarenja otpadom. Svrha provedbe projekta je izgradnja svijesti građana Ogulina i Plaškog, koji se nalaze na području posebne državne skrbi, o važnosti odgovornog postupanja s komunalnim otpadom, s posebnim naglaskom na sprječavanje nastanka otpada, pravilno odvajanje otpada u kućanstvima, kućno kompostiranje i ponovnu uporabu predmeta, s ciljem smanjenja količine otpada koji se odlaže na odlagališta.
Provedbom projekta među građanima se promoviraju četiri (4) glavna cilja koja treba ostvariti kako bi se smanjile količine otpada, posebno onog nerazvrstanog, a to su: (1) sprječavanje nastanka otpada, (2) odvojeno prikupljanje komunalnog otpada, (3) kućno kompostiranje i (4) ponovna uporaba predmeta.
Nastanak otpada možemo spriječiti ili smanjiti tako da kupujemo racionalno, biramo veća pakiranja umjesto više manjih, koristimo vrećice za višekratnu uporabu umjesto jednokratnih plastičnih vrećica, namirnice kupujemo planski i onoliko koliko stvarno treba, kako bi smanjili nastanak otpada od hrane, konzumiramo vodu iz slavine koja je u većini slučajeva ispravna kao i voda iz boce.
Kako bi razvili svijest o potrebi za racionalnim gospodarenjem otpadom trebat će ustrajno i kontinuirano educirati građane, posebno mlađe generacije, o važnosti i svrsi odvojenog prikupljanja komunalnog otpada, o važnosti kućnog kompostiranja, jer u komunalnom otpadu 70-80% volumena se odnosi na biorazgradivi otpad, te o važnosti ponovne i dugotrajnije uporabe predmeta kako bi se očuvali resursi i ostvarilo kružno gospodarstvo.
Vrijednost projekta iznosi pola milijuna kuna, iz fondova EU bi se financiralo 85% vrijednosti projekta dok bi se ostatak financirao iz proračuna Grada Ogulina i općine Plaški te iz proračuna tvrtke Stambeno komunalno gospodarstvo d.o.o.
