IJ Tomo Medved.
U politici ste jedan od simbola Domovinskog rata. Kako danas gledate na to vrijeme?
Kako vrijeme odmiče, sve smo svjesniji važnosti tog povijesnog razdoblja koje nas je kao narod trajno odredilo. Isto tako, sve smo više svjesni doprinosa našeg prvog predsjednika.
Dr. Franjo Tuđman je iskoristio povijesnu šansu i predvodio hrvatske branitelje na putu ostvarenja vjekovnih težnji našeg naroda da imamo svoju državu.
Tadašnji konsenzus domovinske i iseljene Hrvatske i hrvatskih branitelja donio nam je slobodnu i samostalnu Hrvatsku. Danas obnavljamo to zajedništvo i to je važan dio programa Hrvatske demokratske zajednice.
Dr. Franjo Tuđman uzor Vam je u Vašem djelovanju, koji dio njegove politike biste istaknuli?
Sve što danas u HDZ-u radimo zacrtano je u predsjednikovom znamenitom govoru u Hrvatskom saboru 30. svibnja 1990. Danas na taj datum ponovno slavimo Dan državnosti.
Kao Tuđmanovi politički nasljednici, njegovu ideju suverenizma stavili smo u novi okvir koji nazivamo moderni suverenizam.
Jačanjem našeg međunarodnog položaja još bolje, učinkovitije i brže ostvarujemo sve strateške nacionalne zadaće i razvojne ciljeve, povećavamo gospodarsku kvalitetu života i osnažujemo socijalne preduvjete u hrvatskom društvu.
Politika i doktrina dr. Franje Tuđmana obvezuje sve nas koji smo dobili povjerenje od hrvatskog naroda da upravljamo procesima kojima se danas, na njegovim temeljima, unaprjeđuje Hrvatska.
Ove godine obilježili smo 30. obljetnicu pogibije Vašeg ratnog prijatelja Damira Tomljanovića Gavrana, kakva sjećanja Vas vežu uz tog heroja Domovinskog rata?
Tako je, 17. veljače u Krivom putu smo obilježili 30. godišnjicu Damirove pogibije, pomalo s nevjericom da je već prošlo toliko godina jer su sjećanja živa kao da smo tu tragičnu vijest čuli jučer.
Postoje ratnici i junaci Domovinskog rata kroz koje oslikavamo karakter hrvatskog branitelja, a takav je bio Gavran, čovjek koji je u sebi posjedovao liderstvo, ali i ljubav, snagu i autoritet. Ponosan sam što smo zajedno branili i stvarali samostalnu i suverenu Republiku Hrvatsku.
Gavran je dao svoj život za slobodu koju danas imamo. Dužni smo čuvati sjećanje na njega i na sve naše junake Domovinskog rata, koji su nam i danas inspiracija i usmjerenje u našem radu za dobrobit domovine.
Što Vas vodi i motivira u životu?
Domoljublje me vodi cijeli život. Zato sam se odazvao zovu Domovine i prije nego je počeo rat, u kojem sam bio od prvog do zadnjeg dana, a kroz vojnu karijeru te poslije i političku nastavio sam časno služiti domovini.
To nije posao, to je poziv koji živiš 24 sata dnevno. Tako sam funkcionirao u Domovinskom ratu i poslije u Hrvatskoj vojsci, a tako funkcioniram i u politici, kao državni dužnosnik.
Što vam je bio najveći izazov u političkoj karijeri?
Odmah na početku mandata suočio sam se s problemima koje je uzrokovala bivša Vlada. Nezadovoljni branitelji, u prvom redu najteži hrvatski ratni vojni invalidi, bili su prisiljeni tražiti svoja prava ispred vrata ministarstva.
Od prvog dana na čelu Ministarstva hrvatskih branitelja počeo sam obnavljati partnerski odnos s udrugama iz Domovinskog rata, a vrata Ministarstva otvorili smo svim hrvatskim braniteljima, kojima smo bili dostupni u svim županijama.
Temelj naše državnosti je Domovinski rat i žrtva hrvatskih branitelja. To nikada u našoj Vladi nismo zaboravili niti zanemarili, što smo dokazali kroz sve aktivnosti koje smo u proteklih osam godina provodili.
Suočavali smo se s brojnim izazovima u mandatu, čak i najtežima od Domovinskog rata, ali dokazali smo da se možemo i znamo nositi s njima. Kada je na prvom mjestu ljubav prema Hrvatskoj i dobrobit naše države i građana, sve izazove je lakše premostiti.
Danas su u fokusu neki drugi izazovi, ali Vi ste opet na „prvoj crti“. Kako gledate na budućnost Hrvatske?
Hrvatska je danas snažna i sigurna zemlja. Uspjesi se nisu dogodili slučajno i ne bi bili mogući bez strateškog promišljanja, znanja i upornosti.
Ključ naše budućnosti su naši mladi. Kao što se hrvatska mladost u Domovinskom ratu borila za slobodnu i samostalnu hrvatsku državu, tako se i danas mladi trebaju boriti za uspješnu Hrvatsku, a mi smo im postavili čvrste temelje, temelje u koje je ugrađena žrtva hrvatskih branitelja. To nikada nećemo i ne smijemo zaboraviti. Jer naša nas prošlost određuje, a budućnost obvezuje. I zato smo svi pozvani raditi za dobrobit naše domovine kako bi Hrvatska ostala sigurna i bila još snažnija.
